The mission of Chasing Rainbows Rescue and Sanctuary is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome horses in need. One of our main focuses is on getting horses out of the slaughter pipeline. Just like people, every horse and their needs are different, and we provide a specialized refeeding program that is specific to that particular horse.
In addition to helping them recover physically from their malnutrition, wounds, and neglect, we also put a lot of time into helping them recover mentally and emotionally. The majority of these horses have been let down by the people in their lives, and we teach them that it is ok to trust again. Watching their transformations is truly humbling, and what keeps us going daily.
The photos of these horses upon arrival can be very hard to see, but their transformations are amazing. All of the rescues are given a minimum of 30-45 days to decompress while we get to know them in a quarantine environment. Once each horse has been evaluated both on the ground and under saddle(when applicable, as some are not rideable), they are put up for adoption to an approved home that best fits the individuals needs. If a horse is deemed unadoptable(medical issues, past injuries, special needs, etc), they stay with us in our sanctuary, which allows them to live out their days safely, surrounded by the love they have come to know in our care.

Rescue pony Asher is warming up a bit. Today we were able to FINALLY brush his mane and forelock, and he even tolerated having that Fabio forelock braided. He also allowed us to touch and lift his front leg. While it didn't last long, it is a huge step in the right direction for this handsome baby. German Horse Muffins are most definitely the way to his heart.

This mare is a 19 year old Standardbred who has spent her entire life as an Amish buggy horse, until she was discarded in the kill pen. She is very untrusting of people, but is slowly warming up and learning what treats and a soft hand are.

Star is a 5 year old green bean, but very willing. Due to a previous injury, he is not suitable for jumping or gaming disciplines, however would make a fantastic trail partner or potential dressage mount. He is a blank slate. He is an easy keeper, and currently lives out 24/7, although he is also fine being stalled. He is high on the pecking order, and would benefit from a regular program with a knowledgeable rider and trainer.

These 2 sisters were owner surrenders due to lack of time and space. They will be 2 in April. They are potbellies, but they are NOT house pigs. This duo must stay together, and you must have secure and appropriate housing/fencing.

Today we said goodbye to April. While she was only with us for a few weeks, she took a big piece of our hearts with her. The neglect she faced for so long before arriving at the rescue was just too much, and her body was failing, despite our best efforts. Thank you Abington Equine for your kindness and compassion as always. Fly free over

Hawaiian Beach Lady was a 23 year old Standardbred. She was sent in the pen after not confirming in foal for 2022. She has had 10 babies on the ground already, with earnings totaling 1.5 million dollars, yet found herself facing slaughter because she couldn't produce anymore money makers. Hawaiian contracted organ failure and a heart murmer and now is running with the angels.

Jack joined the family when we moved to the farm 8 months ago, and we fell in love with him immediately. He touched so many lives and taught so many little riders in his 34 years on this earth. He spent 20 years at the farm, and he passed in his sleep, peacefully surrounded by his friends. Fly free sweet Jack. Thank you for blessing us with your kisses and sass.

Tiberon joined our Sanctuary a year ago. His original racing connections searched for him for 15 years, before finding him sick and in horrible shape in a kill pen. They immediately got him to safety and began his extensive rehab. Tiberon went down in his stall, and was unable to get up due to renal failure. We are beyond thankful for the time we had. Rest easy sweet Tiberon.
